Monday 13th January

Today I was completing my off the job training as per my otj record

Wednesday 15th January

Today was spent in the office, working through set work allocated on a spreadsheet.  This involved accepting atlas for pension credit uprates from April 2020. We start getting a high volume of these every year to process.  Some of them are auto processed by the system which can cause errors in the claim income which need be checked carefully.  For example if a claimant is in receipt of Guaranteed Pension Credits, for some reason, the system removes this income from the claim between January and April each year, which benefit officers then have to amend.  The issue has been raised with my team manager, who has confirmed she will speak to the officers in charge of the auto processing to try and find a solution.

Thursday 16th January

Today has been more of the work from the atlas spreadsheet, which I started yesterday.  I also worked on matched and expired pending work from my tray in anite.  I suspended some claims, where claimants had not responded to my initial request for information within a month and I have now written out to them again.

Friday 17th January.

Today  I have been working on new CTR claims, generated through pdf's received from the DWP with UC new claims.  A couple of the claims were already created on Northgate, due to the claimant's details being registered for past claims.  With these I had to make sure the details for the household were matching the UC information and also check they were liable for Council Tax at the address they have now claimed CTR for.  The rest of the pdf documents were for brand new claimants.  I had to create pin numbers for them on the system, to be able to register their claim and also create pin numbers for any dependents or non dependents that were in the household.  All of the new claims are now pended, waiting for the next UC update which should confirm their first months payment.

A meeting also held today, between myself and the other four apprentices, to discuss our ideas and work done so far for our citizenship project.  It was decided that we would look into different events going on within Kirklees , that we could go along to and set up a pop up station, to provide advice about benefits and in particular promote Council Tax Reduction.  We are going to speak to senior management, regarding having some promotional leaflets printed and being given the time to attend an event.
